Those Distant Things Not flying fish, swimming seals, dabbling ducks, or water bugs, not orca fins, boulders, pebbles, or my imagination, but penguins; porpoising, paddling, plunging, posturing, primping, plumping penguins!
Those grey boulders, at the feet of the penguins (top left) are not boulders, but bubbas.

I remember the first time I heard “porpoising” to describe a penguin’s method of speed-swimming… so apt and beautiful! Thank you for sharing all these p penguin words. They may not be able to fly in the air, but they sure can in the water!

Your penguins–both poem and pictures–are such fun. Love the alliteration.

How can you not just be entranced by penguins? I’ve only ever seen them in aquariums – what a thrilling experience to observe them in their natural habitat!!

I’ve never seen penguins like this. How wonderful! As for your poem, I love your start–“Not… ,” the form of your last 8 lines, and of course, your awesome alliteration.
